SHORT SERMON FOR YOUTH SERVICE: YOU ARE CHOSEN, NOT RANDOM (Jeremiah 1:5)
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations (Jeremiah 1:5)
Have you ever felt invisible? Like your life is ordinary, unnoticed, or even accidental? The world often measures value by followers, grades, appearance, or achievements. But God does not. Before Jeremiah was born, God said, “I knew you.” That means your existence is not a mistake. You are not random. You are designed with intention. Being chosen by God does not mean life will be easy. Jeremiah faced rejection and hardship. Yet his identity was secure. He did not preach because people applauded him; he preached because God called him.
Young people today struggle with identity. Social media constantly asks, “Who are you?” But heaven already answered: You are chosen. Chosen does not mean perfect. It means purposed. Maybe you feel unqualified. Moses felt that way. Gideon felt that way. Even Timothy was told, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young.” God specializes in using those who feel inadequate. Your age is not a limitation; it is an opportunity. Your weakness is not a disqualification; it is a doorway for God’s strength.
When you understand you are chosen, you stop competing and start serving. You stop comparing and start trusting. Remember, you are not here by accident. Your gifts, your story, even your struggles are part of God’s shaping process. You are chosen. Live like it.

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for bringing us today. Thank You because our lives are not accidents. Your Word says in Jeremiah 1:5 that before we were formed in the womb, You knew us. Before we were born, You set us apart.
Lord, remind every young person, that we are chosen — not random. Called — not forgotten. Loved — not overlooked. When we feel insecure, speak identity. When we feel lost, give direction. When we doubt our purpose, remind us that You already have a plan.
Help us to live boldly, to walk confidently, and to trust that our future is in Your hands. Open our hearts to receive Your Word. Shape us into the generation You have called us to be. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
