EASTER SERVICE: EASTER IS HOPE, SALVATION, JOY AND REDEMPTION (Matius 28:1-15)
Easter is hope. Easter is salvation. Easter is joy and redemption. The message of Easter invites us to see life, our responsibilities, and our presence in this world in a new way. It calls us to move beyond old fears, past failures, and broken expectations, and to step into a renewed understanding of God’s love and purpose for our lives. When Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to Jesus’ tomb, they came with heavy hearts. They were filled with grief and sorrow. The trauma of the crucifixion at Golgotha had crushed their hopes. The one they loved, followed, and believed in had died. In their minds, the story had ended in tragedy. They did not go to the tomb expecting a miracle. They did not carry hope that Jesus would rise again. Instead, they came with sadness, with questions, and perhaps with a quiet sense of loss that could not easily be healed. Their steps toward the tomb were slow and burdened. Their hearts were weighed down by disappointment. Everything they had hoped for seemed to disappear at the cross. The pain of losing Jesus was real, deep, and overwhelming. Like many of us, they struggled to understand why such suffering had to happen.
But Easter changed everything. The tomb was empty. Jesus had risen. An angel appeared and delivered the most unexpected message: “He is not here; He has risen.” This simple yet powerful truth broke through their sorrow. The angel even invited them to see for themselves the place where Jesus had been laid. The empty tomb became the first sign of hope restored, the first evidence that death did not have the final word. This moment transformed their grief into joy. The women who had come with sorrow left with great happiness. Their tears were replaced with excitement. Their slow steps turned into hurried running. They ran to share the good news with the disciples. As written in Matthew 28:8, they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell His disciples. What a powerful transformation! From despair to hope. From mourning to celebration. From silence to proclamation. Even more amazing, they encountered Jesus Himself. The risen Lord met them on the way. He greeted them with simple yet comforting words: “Greetings.”
In that moment, their faith became real in a new and deeper way. They approached Him, held His feet, and worshiped Him. This was not just a story anymore—it was a living reality. Jesus strengthened their courage. He gave them a mission: to go and tell others that He had risen. These women, who were once overwhelmed by fear and sadness, became bold witnesses of the resurrection. Their lives were forever changed by the truth of Easter. However, not everyone responded to the resurrection with faith and honesty. While the women chose to believe and testify to the truth, the chief priests and religious leaders chose a different path. Instead of accepting the truth, they created a lie. They spread false stories, bribed the guards, and manipulated the situation to hide what had really happened. Money and fear silenced the truth. The guards, who had seen the reality, were persuaded to deny it. The truth of Jesus’ resurrection was covered with deception. A false narrative began to spread among the people. Even though the evidence was clear, dishonesty attempted to replace truth. This contrast shows us something very important: Easter always invites a response. People can choose truth or lies, faith or denial, courage or compromise.
Easter, therefore, is not just a yearly celebration. It is not only about traditions like candle parades, Easter egg hunts, or festive gatherings. These activities can be joyful, but they are not the essence of Easter. The true meaning of Easter lies in the resurrection of Jesus and what it means for our lives. Jesus died to redeem us. He rose again to give us victory. Because of His resurrection, we are invited into a life of transformation. Easter is about transformation—an inner change that affects our thoughts, actions, and way of living. Transformation means a change in form, function, and character. It means becoming new. Easter calls us to move from death to life, from sadness to joy, and from hopelessness to hope. It challenges us to reflect on our lives and ask: Has the resurrection of Jesus changed me?
If we truly celebrate Easter, there must be evidence of transformation in our lives. We cannot remain the same. The resurrection power of Jesus is meant to renew us, to shape us into people who live in truth, love, and righteousness. For example, if in our lives there have been practices of dishonesty, spreading false information, gossip, or corruption, Easter calls us to turn away from those things. We are called to become servants of truth, not servants of sin. We are called to live with integrity, not controlled by money, temptation, or evil influences. Easter invites us to examine our hearts. Are we living in truth? Are we bold enough to stand for what is right? Or do we compromise when it is difficult? Just as the women became witnesses of the resurrection, we too are called to be witnesses in our daily lives. This means speaking truth, living honestly, and reflecting God’s love in everything we do. It means rejecting lies, resisting gossip, and choosing righteousness even when it is not easy. To be a witness of Easter is to live differently. It means we do not allow fear to control us, because Jesus has conquered death. It means we do not lose hope, even in difficult times, because the resurrection assures us that God’s power is greater than any problem we face.
Life is not always easy. There are struggles, disappointments, and moments of pain. Sometimes we may feel like the women at the tomb—confused, sad, and without hope. But Easter reminds us that God is still at work, even when we do not understand what is happening. The empty tomb is a message that nothing is impossible for God. Even when situations seem hopeless, God can bring new life. Even when dreams seem to die, God can restore them. Even when we feel weak, God can give us strength. Easter gives us courage to keep going. We are encouraged to live bravely, without fear. We are called to serve God with joy, without complaint. We are invited to hold on to hope, even when life is full of challenges.
Jesus has defeated death. He is the victor. Because of that, we do not need to be afraid of the future. We do not need to live in anxiety or despair. Our lives are in God’s hands, and His victory becomes our victory. Easter also calls us to action. It is not enough to know the story—we must share it. Just as the women ran to tell the disciples, we are also sent to share the good news with others. The world needs hope. Many people are living in fear, confusion, and uncertainty. The message of Easter is the answer they need. We can share this message through our words, our actions, and our attitudes. When we choose kindness, we reflect God’s love. When we stand for truth, we reflect God’s righteousness. When we remain hopeful, we reflect the power of the resurrection. Every believer is called to be a messenger of Easter. Let us not keep this joy to ourselves. Let us bring light into dark places. Let us encourage those who are discouraged. Let us remind others that there is hope, because Jesus is alive.
In our workplaces, families, churches, and communities, we can become instruments of God’s peace. We can build relationships based on honesty and love. We can create environments where truth is valued and respected. Easter is not just about remembering—it is about living. It is about allowing the resurrection of Jesus to shape who we are and how we live each day. It is about becoming people who reflect the character of Christ in every situation.
As we celebrate Easter, let us open our hearts to God’s transforming power. Let us allow Him to renew our minds, strengthen our faith, and guide our steps. May the message of Easter fill us with joy, hope, and peace. May it give us the strength to work faithfully for God, with courage and without fear. May it help us to live with gratitude, without complaints. And may it remind us that even in the midst of struggles, we have a living hope.Jesus is alive. He is our strength, our hope, and our victory. So do not be afraid to live. Do not be afraid to move forward. Do not be afraid to trust God.
Celebrate Easter with a renewed heart. Share the good news with the world. Live as a witness of His resurrection. May God bless you. Happy Easter.
